THE 2005 USA NATIONAL 15K RACE WALKING CHAMPIONSHIP - Open and Junior
and New England Association Race Walking Championship

It was a beautiful summer day in New England. Temperatures were in the upper 70's. Eleven women and thirteen men competed on the new 1500 meter Greenough Blvd course. Benjamin Shorey, from Osborn, Maine became the 2005 USA Men's 15 Kilometer Champion with a time of 1:11:00. Joanne Dow, of Manchester New Hampshire is the 2005 USA Women's 15 Kilometer Champion with a time of 1:14:13.

The team of Mike Kazmierczak, Bill Vayo, Joseph Trapani, representing Walk USA took the 2005 Team Championship prize with a combined time of 4:07:45. Second place was the team of Dave Talcott, John Fredericks, Ron Salvio, representing Shore AC, with a time of 4:43:19.

THE DETAILS

ENTRY FORM

ELIGIBILITY and Age Groups

Entry is open to all 2005 USATF members age 14 and over on race day. Only US citizens are eligible for awards. Foreign athletes are welcome to compete but they must be a member of their home federation, and are not eligible for championship awards.

STARTING TIME

All divisions start togther at 8:30 a.m.

AWARDS

USATF Championship medals: to the top 3 in the Open and Junior divisions. Additional awards will be presented on the whim of the race director.

Prize Money: Prize money will be awarded to the top three finishers in the open men's and women's 15 km race walk as follows:

TEAM SCORING

Teams are scored based on the total times of their top 3 competitors. Teams must declare a minimum of three and a maximum of five walkers prior to the race on a declaration form at the check-in area.

Team medals to the three scoring members of the top Junior and Senior teams.

TRAVEL

Watertown Massachusetts is located directly across the mighty Charles River from Boston.
The course runs along the Charles River.

Air The course itself is approximately 12 miles fom Boston's Logan International Airport.
Individuals flying in may find cheaper fares into Manchester Airport in Manchester NH (40 miles) or T.F.Green Airport in Providence RI (50 miles). Both are served by most major airlines.
Train Amtrak stops in the center of Boston.
In city The course is right on MBTA buslines from downtown Boston, from Central Square in Cambridge, and from Waltham to the west. Closest subway access is about 2 miles.
Driving The course is minutes off the Massachusetts Turnpike, I-90 Exit 17 See the detailed map. Ample parking is available on North Beacon Street as well as at the Home Depot parking lot. There is easy access from the Home Depot parking lot to the course.

LODGING

There is no specific host hotel yet; there are a number of hotels/motels within a short drive. The Days Inn on Soldiers Field Rd, Boston is under a mile away. We will likely be using the Hilton Familiy of Hotels.

OTHER EVENT NOTES

Course

The course runs between North Beacon and Arsenal Streets in Watertown along the Charles River.

The course is a 1500 meter flat out-and-back circuit with some curve to the road. Click here for a detailed course map.

The course will not be set up until race morning, but you may workout on the bikepath that parallels the roadway at any time.

Post Event Refreshments of a brunch type will follow in the picnic area adjacent to the start/finish area.
Awards ceremony at the same location beginning at 10:30 a.m.

There are no locker room facilities at the race site, but race participants will be able to utilize locker rooms at the Mt.Auburn Club located at 57 Coolidge Avenue, 1/4 mile from the course, between 10:00 and 12:00 only.
2005 USATF Race Walk Grand Prix The 15K is part of the 2005 USA Race Walk Grand Prix for both individuals and teams.
It is also part of the USATF-New England Grand Prix.
Local Organizing Committee The meet is managed by USA Track & Field - New England office, with plenty of volunteer assistance.
