Tomorrow, November 19th, there will be a public hearing held by MassDOT to discuss a proposed deck replacement of bridge #B-16-056, Cambridge Street over I-90, which includes the preservation of bridge #B-16-057, Lincoln Street Pedestrian overpass over I-90 project in Boston-Allston, MA.
As MassDOT plans to rebuild the Cambridge Street bridge, local residents, including much of the Boston running community, have begun to voice their opinions and thoughts surrounding the proposal — all with the intention of making the bridge safer for pedestrians, whether they’re walking, running or biking over it.
Making this bridge repair even more relevant for the Boston running community, is the fact that this is the same location which USATF-NE President Tom Derderian marked for a Boston Marathon memorial. His proposal, which can be viewed here, dovetails with what the local residents want.
“A safe way for runners to go from BU, Common Ave. to Harvard and the river is part of our promoting and fostering of athletics,” said Derderian.
For those interested in attending the hearing, it will be held Tuesday, November 19th at Jackson Mann Community Center located at 500 Cambridge Street in Allston, MA.
