WILSON WINS 3 EVENTS AT CLUB NATIONALS

none June 28-29, New York City

Lisa Wilson of Greater Boston Track Club (GBTC) won three throwing events at the USATF Club Nationals, helping her club to a fourth place finish in the USA National Club Championship held at Icahn Stadium in New York. The UMass Amherst alumna took the shot put (13.88m), Discus (46.59m) and hammer (55.81m) for 30 of the club’s 85 points. The meet was won by Central Park Track Club (216.5) followed by Norfolk Real Deal (VA) in 153. Hope Rathnam (GBTC) was the second New England competitor to take home a title,  in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:46.00.

In the men’s results, Andre Reid (GBTC) was the only winner from the association putting the shot a strong 18.73m/61’5 1/2″. Teammate Bryan Powlen also scored an NE medal performance, with a third place discus throw at 60.98m. GBTC was top New England team in 7th (29 points) behind Garden State TC (277) and Central Park TC (150).

While these were the only event winners from USATF-NE, several other association athletes made their mark. In fact, some athletes doubled up in events (in some cases even competing in three, four or five events) to score points for their respective teams. Among these highlights, we saw New Balance Boston’s (NBB) Karen Roa take second place in a competitive 5,000 meter field, with a time of 17:13. Her teammates Zachary Lankow and James Weider took sixth and ninth respectively in the 1500 meter race, with times of 4:06 and 4:12. In the high jump, Brandon Palmer of Western Mass Alliance placed eighth, and his teammate Michael Hibert took seventh in the long jump. Additionally, Alyse Rocco and Aly Millett of GBTC placed sixth in their respective events, the 1500 meter and 5,000 meter races, each scoring three points for their team. Their teammate Stacy Connor took second in both the shot put and discus events. We also saw New England teams score points in many of the relay events. Overall, USATF-NE athletes represented their teams and the association well across a number of events in an exciting and highly competitive meet.
