2004 George and Whitey King 4 x 1600 Relay
The 1st George and Whitey King 4 x 1600 Relay
Saunders Stadium, South Boston MA
Only the HFC Striders answered the challenge of the first annual George and Whitey King 4 x 1600 meter relay
Held at the new South Boston track facility, it is named in honor of the Boston brothers who were top
middle distance runners at Boston English HS in the 1950's and who continue in the sport as officials.
George was part of a US record setting 4 x 1500 relay in 1956.
Whitey was the event starter for the evening.
The teams were joined by Uta Pippig, who warmed up and cooled down with the runners,
and ran a few 400 legs on a undermanned pick-up foursome.
Harpoon Brewery sponsorship provided a growler of beer and set of glasses to the winning teams.
